Guides Best cellular trail cameras
Best cellular trail cameras Picked from tests and plan costs
For most hunters, the Tactacam Reveal X 4.0 ($129.99) is the one to buy: it backed up its trigger claim in independent testing, detected to 90 ft, ran about 14 months on lithium AAs, and its plans start at $5 a month. On a tight budget, the Spypoint Flex-M2 ($59.99) runs on a free 100-photo plan. For detection on Moultrie's platform, the Edge 3 Pro won TrailCamPro's 2026 cellular detection category.
How these picks work: we compared every camera in our database on what can be sourced: published independent test results (TrailCamPro), the modem and bands on its FCC filing, maker specs, and two years of plan cost. We don't do hands-on testing, so where no independent test exists we say so and lean on the filing and maker data.
What r/trailcam Asks About Cell Cams
The questions repeat every season: “Best cell cams?” (thread), “What is the best entry level cell cam?” (thread) and, most often, how to keep plan costs down across several cameras (How do people afford to have like 10 cell cams?). Picture quality complaints are common too (Cell cam picture quality). The picks below weigh all of that.

What We Left Out
The Tactacam Reveal X 3.0 is $30 cheaper than the X 4.0 but tested at 60 ft detection against a “96ft+” claim, with half the battery life. The Moultrie Edge 4 Pro is a strong spec sheet at $159.99, but it was out of stock when we checked and costs $60 more than the Edge 3 Pro on sale. The Spypoint Flex-M is still a bargain if you find one, with the slow-recovery caveat above. Every camera is in the full comparison table.
Common questions
What is the best cell cam for the money?
Count the plan, not just the camera. Over two years on the cheapest paid tier billed yearly, the Tactacam Reveal X 4.0 comes to $239.99 and a Moultrie Edge 3 to $315.75. A Spypoint Flex-M2 on the free tier costs only its $59.99 sticker price.
Which cell cam has the best picture quality?
Megapixel claims won’t tell you; most trail cams upscale their photos. Look at independent sample photos, and remember cellular images are usually compressed thumbnails, with full-resolution photos sent on request or for a fee. See trail camera megapixels.
Which cell cam is best on public land?
Theft is the bigger risk there, so a cheaper camera you can lock down often makes more sense. Look for GPS tagging and a lock-box option for your model; the Moultrie Edge 3 and Browning Defender Pro Scout Max HD list GPS on their maker pages.
Do cell cams work without good signal?
They need at least a usable signal on one of the camera’s LTE bands. Check your carrier’s coverage where the camera will hang, and compare it against the bands on the camera’s FCC filing. See LTE bands and carriers.
